2900 switch and VLAN problem (rant)

We are installing about 270 2900 series switches. We made a cookie-cutter configuration for all the switches. The first 20 or so worked fine. As more were installed, we noticed the switches worked, but were not pingable.

I went to one of the stores and noticed VLAN1 was administratively down. How?? I checked the IOS version.

12.0 (5.3) was the working IOS.

12.1(9) didn't work.

I changed the script so that the last thing we do in the config is no shut on the VLAN1 interface, but what a dumb move on Cisco's part!!!

Sounds like you have some 2900XLs and some 2950s. The default must be different in the 12.1 code.
