We have seen at least 2 incidents where a 2950 10/100 port just stops working. A host is connected and works fine for several weeks, then one day out of the blue, the 2950 FastE port stops working. After a reboot, the faulty port remains faulty. All other ports on the switch remain good.
Code is 12.1(13)EA1c.
-The mac address of the host that is connected on the port shows up in the mac address table on the switch.
-There are no FastE interface/ethernet controller errors of any kind.
-I have tried locking down the port to various combos of speed and duplex to no avail.
-Tried different cable/different host-same result...no workey.
-We can see packets out on the interface stats increasing, but packets in increase very little.
-There are no special config options on the port, e.g. no port security, etc...Just a plain ol' FastE port.
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this kind of issue with the 2950. This has happened on two different switches. Our next option is to try and upgrade the IOS, but I can't see how much that will help because the "dead" port remains dead even after a reboot.
-TIA

An IOS upgrade would not help in this case, unless it is a software issue. This seems more like a hardware issue. Guess you would have to replace the card.

We've had the same problem. To get round it we have forced the duplex and speed (ie FULL 100) and then plugged in a device to the port. The port then works again. It still works if you then re-set it back to AUTO.
