3550s do not automatically reconnect to 6500s

When we power cycle our 6500s, some of the 3550s do not re-attach. They are using fiber 1Gb uplinks that are 802.1Q trunks. There are no link lights on either side. When we power cycle the 3550s they link up again. Could this be an ethernet autonegotiation issue? All our ports are left at their default which I think is for autonegotiating speed and duplex.

Hello,

you might want to try and set the trunk links to a fixed configuration on both sides, in order to avoid trunk negotiation issues.

Can you post the configuration of the trunks on both sides ?

What is the status that was shown with

show interface status?

Did you check show log on the 3550 to see

if there were any references to err-disable

From what you describe

Ports are not linking up it might be that

they were in err-disable and by rebooting

you brought them back up.

Show log/syslog would have told you why they were

in err-disable state.

I don't think it should be related to the trunking

configuration, if it was related to trunking

the link would have come up, but the trunk

would have remained down.
