Whats is the way to split , say smtp and ftp traffic to different Service providers with different AS Nos using BGP ? The split needs to be in both directions and also fail over to the second provider if the primary path fails ?
You can try to use NBAR to first mark the packets at the input interface and then after other techniques like policy routing depends on the marking to set the next hop. Influencing the return traffic with respect to applications is extremely difficult to achieve.
