behavior of "ip directed-broadcast"

Hi,

The command "ip directed-broadcast" seems not working, for the following configuration:

interface e0

ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

no ip directed-broadcast

when do a "ping 10.1.1.255", I still can get reply from the hosts directly connected to interface E0, WHY??

Are you pinging from the router or from a device connected to other interface?

I did both, from the local router and another router connected to this router, in both cases, I can get the ping reply. why?
