catalyst 2924XL IOS versions

Hello,

I want to use the mac-address [mac-address] command on the ports of the catalyst 2924 XL we have. All the machines are identical, but they have different IOS versions.

Then, when I try to do it on a IOS C2900XL-H2S-M ver 12.0 (5.1)XP the command works. But when I do it on a IOS C2900XL-C3H2S-M ver 12.0 (5.2)XU it doesn't works. I get an error message: '"mac-address" override is not allowed in this system".

Is it "normal"? The 5.2 XU is newer than 5.1 XP, isn't it? So I would know what I have to do to solve the problem.

Hi,

generally, newer IOS does not aways mean a better one - some bugs just apear in newer IOS.

I'd recommend to upgrade to the latest IOS (12.0(5)WC10 currently).

The 2900XLs are End_of_Sale quite a long time, so no new features are being added to the IOS new releases, only bugs are being fixed.

So I'd expect high probability of this bug being fixed in the latest IOS.

You can also check the Release Notes (and http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/c2900xl/2935wc10/ol256206.htm#wp715784) and Software Bug Toolkit (see http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/support/index.html) and try to find the bug.
