Catalyst 4506 - interface input error

Hi everyone,

I have two new Catalyst 4506 connected among them with fiber-optic GBIC (1000Base-SX):

4506_A gi1/1 <--- 1 Gb ---> 4506_B gi1/1

4506_A gi2/1 <--- 1 Gb ---> 4506_B gi2/1

4506_A gi2/2 <--- 1 Gb ---> 4506_B gi2/2

4506_A gi3/1 <--- 1 Gb ---> 4506_B gi3/1

Switchs have default built configuration, we have not configured nothing still, only connect two catalyst with SC-SC fiber optic cables.

We have observed "input error" on each interface (gi1/1, gi2/1, gi2/2, gi3/1) but don´t runts, giants, throttles, CRC, frame, others error, only "input error".

4506-A#sh int gi1/1

GigabitEthernet1/1 is up, line protocol is up (connected)

...

5454707 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored

0 input packets with dribble condition detected

...

In the other end, the counter show "0 input error" on some those interfaces and "input error" on others.

Has anyone an explanation for this?

I've experienced this 'symbol error' on many 4507 gigabit ports. It always stops if you get your fibre connectors cleaned.

Apparently only later versions of IOS report this error.

Thank you Raphcarey99.

I used Version 12.1(19)EW1 on my Catalyst 4506. I used new AMP cable Fibre connectors. I don´t know because occurs that.
