I have a problem with trunk between 2950 and 4506.
4506 gi6/6--------l2 trunk---------gi0/1 2950---vlan 192,
4506 vtp server, 2950 vtp client, there is a pix firewall directly connected to 4506 access port with one certain vlan through which to the Internet, there are also some important servers at other ports of the 4506 switch( with vlans, of course), I 'd like to span the vlan 240 and vlan 192 downstream to catalyst 2950 through the trunking link with Gi0/1 port and open several access ports in cat 2950 for server-migration purpose.
However, once I open the trunking link between 4506 and 2950, all users are dropped and complained they can access neither the INTERNET nor the important servers directly connected to the catalyst 4506 switc.
Here are my configuration and relevant info on 4506 :
!
interface GigabitEthernet6/6
description "temporary L2 TRUNK for server migration, to 2950 in IT area"
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk allowed vlan 192,240
switchport mode trunk
logging event link-status
!
sw-bmw-sy#sh vtp stat
VTP Version : 2
Configuration Revision : 34
Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005
Number of existing VLANs : 15
VTP Operating Mode : Server
VTP Domain Name : BMW-Brill
VTP Pruning Mode : Disabled
VTP V2 Mode : Disabled
====
The two VLANs I 'd like to span to cat 2950(shown on cat 4506),
VLAN ISL Id: 192
Name: VLAN0192
Media Type: Ethernet
VLAN 802.10 Id: 100192
State: Operational
MTU: 1500
Backup CRF Mode: Disabled
Remote SPAN VLAN: No
VLAN ISL Id: 240
Name: SHE001
Media Type: Ethernet
VLAN 802.10 Id: 100240
State: Operational
MTU: 1500
Backup CRF Mode: Dis
for catalyst 2950, just make several commands, vtp domain name, vtp mode as client and open trunking on Gi0/1.
Once I get one SVI interface up on cat2950, like interface vlan240, ip address 172.30.240.4 255.255.255.0, suddenly I got a lot of complaining calls.:-(
Anyone can tell me anything wrong with the trunk?
Plus, I am sure this is not a problem with the configuration revision number for the VTP side, nor is it likely to be a configuration error.

Hello,
I remember you asking this question a few days ago. Do you have any SVIs configured on the 4506 as well ? If so, can you try and configure all SVIs on one (the 4506) switch instead of both ? Also, can you post the full configuration of both switches ?
Regards,
Georg

well, I did enable multiple SVIs on Cat 4506 for inter-VLAN routing purposes, but I mean on Cat 2950 I can ONLY enable one SVI, once I tried to open a second SVI on this L2 switch, the original SVI automatically shutdown.

Hi,
there are no SVIs on L2 switches.
You can assign only one IP address to one management interface (int VLANx), VLANx is used then as management VLAN for the switch.
If everything works OK until you assign an IP address to your L2 switch management interface, I'd guess there is something wrong with this address. There might be an address conflict with your default gateway or something similar.
