I have an 877 (ADSL/Wireless/4-port switch) on loan. I cannot get the ADSL to work in the UK. I based the config on an (alledgedly) working config published on the www. The router boots and I hear the relay ticking in the box but it never syncs with the ADSL service provider (BT). I have configured PVC 0/38. See the attached config. The intention is to (1) provide a DHCP address to any client connected to the switch ports or wireless access point. (2) auto-negotiate an IP address on the DSL side. (3) NAT overload any client traffic on the switch / wireless to the auto-negotiated address in (2). The IOS I am using is c870-advsecurityk9-mz.123-8.YI1.bin (looks as though there are only 2 versions available at the moment - Advanced Security and Advanced IP Services). From looking at the config, does anyone have any ideas why this isnt working? I will post some debug later. Thanks.

Hi,
I had a 837 that was purchased in the US working on BT in the UK, so I would be surprised if there were any incompatibility issues.
Config looks fine to me, almost identical to the one i have running on the 837. Apart from some QoS and FW stuff the only difference is that I have this line:
interface ATM0
atm vc-per-vp 64
I didn't add that in so must have been a default or entered by the web configurator I used to get the basics in there. Maybe worth a shot, perhaps BT dont use the same default vlaues for the ATM seperator bits as IOS.
Have you had other devices running on this DSL line before? If not, maybe dodgy filters, or BT haven't switched you on yet.

We've got this sorted (with help from Cisco TAC):
On the 877/1801, we had to say:
int atm0
dsl operating-mode ansi-dmt
instead of:
dsl operating-mode auto
We also need to do a shutdown/no shutdown and sometimes pull the DSL cable if changing this setting.
We're trying to get details from BT of the DSLAM make and firmware version, on the lines where we've seen this problem, to feedback to Cisco.
