Cisco AS5300 Inter-VLAN routing

srd

Can a Cisco AS5300 support 802.1Q encapsulation on its fast ethernet interface (DEC21140AE hardware), and can it, with an appropriate release and feature set of IOS, support inter-VLAN routing via subinterfaces?

If so, what minimum feature set and release of IOS is required?

Thanks.

I don’t see any reference to 802.1q on the AS5300 on Cisco’s web. I would guess it’s not available yet. You should check with your Cisco office/rep to be sure.

I happen to have an AS5300 with an unused FE interface, and to answer your question I created a sub-interface and checked to see what encapsulations are supported:

Router#config t

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Router(config)#int f0.1

Router(config-subif)#enca ?

dot1Q IEEE 802.1Q Virtual LAN

isl Inter Switch Link - Virtual LAN encapsulation

sde IEEE 802.10 Virtual LAN - Secure Data Exchange

And the hardware type is DEC21140.

The router is running this image:

c5300-is-mz.122-6a.bin

which is IOS 12.2(6a) "IP Plus"

I don't see any problem implementing inter-Vlan routing ...

Hope that helped,
