We have two no. of Cisco 6509 switches with MSFC2 having more than 20 VLANs defined in these

We have noticed that in PCs of a particular VLAN it is accepting different Gateway also that should not be happen.

For Instance :

The Default gateway for 144 network has been defined as 144.0.0.25 but it accepting any default gateway which are defined in MSFC as VLAN interfaces.

For example : PC having the IP address 144.0.16.18 should have the default gateway 144.0.0.25 but it is accepting 173.0.0.25 or any other default gateway defined in either of our 2 MSFC of Cisco 6509.

Stuck up in problem will be grateful if anybody can help. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

On PCs the default gateway should be their respective vlan interface`s IP. if you have 144.x.x.x network is assigned to vlan 2, then its vlan interface and all the PCs in that vlan will have 144 range IP and their gateway IP would be the one which is assigned to vlan 2 interface, this is what logically happens.

Kindky paste you configs here for further clarification ..

Hi!

The problem is about the security .

If the Ip address of the PC is defined as 144.0.12,12 and gateway 144.0.0.25 (Defined as VLAN interface in MSFC2) then this is OK.but the problem is if i change the gateway address of the PC to 176.0.25.25 which again is the VLAN interface defined in MSFC2 for 176.0.0.0 network i am able to ping and access any resource in the network.

Hi,

Thanks for updating. kindly post the output of MSFC2 and access switch.

have u defined 176.0.25.25 as a default gateway on access switch.

kindly update.
