DR and BDR in OSPF

I am trying to determine what the documentation is referring to. I am studying for my routing exam; the OSFP sections have considerable mention of items called DR and BDR. When I search for this on the Web, the acroyms are used over and over without any explanation as to what they mean.

Very simply, what do DR and BDR stand for?...

DR means designated router, BDR means backup designated router, and DROTHER means a router that is neither the DR or the BDR. The DR generates a Network Link State Advertisement, which lists all the routers on that network.

Good Luck on your exam...
