I would like to enable uplinkfast on my distribution level switches. They currenlty have backbonefast enabled. Can this be done on a production network or will a scheduled outage need to occur?

Generally on any switch that has blocked ports. So yes, if your distribution switches have blocked ports, enable on them as well.

UplinkFast provides fast STP convergence after a direct link failure in the network access-layer. It operates without modifying the STP protocol, and its purpose is to speed up convergence time in a specific circumstance less then 3 sec, rather than the typical 30s delay (for a direct link failure). This feature should be enabled for switches with blocked ports, typically at the access-layer. It can be added without disruption to a production network.
Hope it helps.

Does this not need to be enabled on the distribution switches as well?
