Ethernet Encapsulation on an Interface

Hello all, and Happy New Year :)

Is it possible to run any other encapsulation of Ethernet on a Cisco interface other than ARPA (Ethernet_II).

It's not that I need to, but am just wondering if I could set a network up with a router and a PC running a different frame encap.

Many thx

Ken,

No it's not possible to change the encapsulation, however a PC running 802.3 can talk to a router running Ethernet Type-II as both encapsulation types can occur concurrently on a LAN. As there are no Protocols with a Protocol number lower than 1500 there is never an overlap between the length and type fields, the router just looks for the inclusion of either the type or length filed and processes the packet accordingly.
