Hi to everyone.
I have a strange doubt about a echo reply in my network infrastructure.
My current network is configured as follow
Gateway with two interfaces Lan 192.168.0.0 24 and wan facing the router cisco 837 with 192.168.1.0
The strange thing is that if I ping from the Lan subnet the ip of the router this reply back without a route that not pointing back to the gateway.if I ping from the router the subnet 192.168.0.0 not reply because it not know where delivery the packet.
Why this behavior? I always thought that to return back a packet a router should have a reverse route otherwise it not know where delivery the packet.
maybe the gateway act as proxy arp and respond on behalf of router?
Thanks to everyone for the clarification

Hi I can't post the configuration because it is a issue that I had two months ago and now I have upgrade to another router vendor.but the result is the same also with another router.the ping is always success although it not has a specified reverse route to reply.
Thanks
