High CPU Utilization on 7505

Router running @ 65%...with Process - IP Input running at 25%...this may be normal operation of the router...any other commands other than "show proc cpu" to determine if router is having memory/cpu problems?

Normally when IP Input is that high, its becuase fast switching has been disabled (no ip route-cache) on the router's interface(s).

Are you using fast-switching, CEF, etc?

As per Micks' mail ensure that you have the optimal switching paths configured on the box.

If you have secondary-interface addresses consider to configure [ip route-cache same-interface] in order to fast-switch packets received in and routed back-out of the same interface (they are process-switches without his command)

The following commands:

show interface stat

show interface switching

show ip interface

May be useful commands to track down traffic switching paths.

Check also for any related 'known bugs' using bug navigator against your IOS version.

If you have configured optimal switching paths, could also be that the RSP CPU is reaching limits, in which case consider to 'scale' the requirements; perhaps upgrading the RSP, implementing VIP's / distributed-switching or other platform solution....
