How can I measure number of CPU cycles for OSPF convergence?

Can the number of CPU cycles on routers be measured, or predicted, during an OSPF topology change in a network? What I'm really looking to measure is an average CPU utilization on routers during an OSPF link-state database change. Is it measurable?

I suppose you could use 'show proc cpu', but you won't get a good number since SPF usually takes less than a second to run, and the most granular average that 'show proc cpu' gives is 5 seconds.

So with that in mind I'm not aware of a particularly good way to get the detail that you seem to be looking for.
