Hi All,
Is there a way to backup the firmware on my Catalyst 2820? I will be upgrading this lab unit but would like to have a backup file in case things go wrong...
Thanks
Danny

Not sure if this is possible. You can try "Enter the [A] Accept upgrade transfer from other hosts option from the menu, and enable this option", and then use the 'get' command on a TFTP client to backup. Check out this link which uses the 'put' command for upgrading the switch from a TFTP client :

Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion. I tried it with no success. I don't believe the internal TFTP server of the Catalyst 2820 supports the GET command.
Plus even if it did support the GET command, I think I would still have to know the file name of the original firmware loaded on the Switch's flash, and seeing that the 2820 does not support "sh flash", and since TFTP does not allow me to list folders/files, I'd have been stuck anyway I guess...
Thanks once again...

Hi,
just an idea (I don't know 2820 at all):
Find the current firmware version by "sh ver" (or something like that on 2820) or by "sh cdp nei det" on some 2820 neighbor.
Download the firmware from CCO (http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/lan/cat2820.shtml)

Milan
