active router is 7206 running 120.6 with 120 priority into 2924 switch via 100mb fullduplex fast ether. Standby router is 4700 running 122.6 with 100 priority into same vlan on 2924 via a 10mb half ether. No authentication is config'd on either interface, but log on active fills up with the following message: "%STANDBY-3-BADAUTH: Bad authentication from 13.252.208.102, remote state Init". nothing appears in standby's log. Using debug standby, active router gets correct hello's from standby except after 7 corect hello's, debug gets: "SB2:FastEthernet1/0 NOP in 13.252.208.102 Init pri 14 hel 1 hol 0 ip 0.0.1.0."
putting authentication on both interfaces did not change problem, am I dealing with an IOS mismatch? any ideas?

This is fixed with CSCdr92559 or by upgrading the 12.0 router. The HSRP packet format changed between 12.0 and 12.2 resulting in the warning message due to different packet format. This has no detrimental effect on the operation of HSRP.
Hope this helps.

Rick.

Rick, we will upgrade the code this weekend. Being a 24x7 network, we can not reload without a confirmed reason, you gave us a good reason.
Thanks
