I am installing a 2821 at a remote site. The 2821 has 2 10/100/1000 ports for the LAN segments. The problem is I have 3 LAN segments that will need to be connected. Is the the HWIC-4ESW a viable solution? Will it have Layer 3 functionality?
Thanks

The layer-3 functionality is in the router itself, giving you effectively 4 FastEthernet interfaces. Set each port on a different VLAN, and create 4 corresponding SVI VLAN interfaces. Then use the SVI interfaces for your layer-3 functions.
I don't know whether on the 4ESW you can even put the ip address in the port itself, and give it no switchport, but I suspect not. I would go for the SVI solution.

Thanks, I will try it

OK, the SVI solution should work fine.
When you try it, could you also try setting no switchport on a port, and giving it an IP address? I am curious to know whether it would accept that type of configuration too. See, I've only ever used a 4ESW "on paper". ;-)
Thanks in advance.

I just popped the "no switchport" command into both the 4ESW and 9ESW and it got rejected saying "Not a convertable port."
