the question might be trivial and have a very easy solution as compared to the standard of the forum, but i am a recent graduate and need help with the following.
I have cat 6509 and I want to know what is the maximum number of virtual ethernet interfaces I can have on the inbuilt routers. currently there are 7 interfaces each configured with a vlan. I want to have another vlan, but dont know if that is possible or not.
if possible, also let me know how to create it?

You can have any number of virtual ethernet interfaces in the inbuilt router. Actually, you require as many interfaces as the VLANs, for routing between the VLANS.
There are two ways to configure; Configuring the 4 interfaces individually as shown below:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/cfgnotes/newaries.htm#15085
or
Using the EtherChannel (This is the recommended option) as given here;
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/cfgnotes/newaries.htm#35002
I am assuming you must be using Gigabit EtherChannel (port Channel interfaces)
It is possible to configure the 7th interface easily. You just have to repeat the configurations on the other interfaces, but change the interface specific parameters such as IP address, subnet mask, VLAN number etc.
This page is all you need to configure MSM on a 6509 switch. Excellent information and nicely explained.
