Interconnecting two Cisco Cat 4006 Switches over Dark Fiber

Hi:

I have two Cisco Catalyst 4006 switches that I need to connect over a dark fiber link. I have the GBICs for both switches. Do I just cross over a pair of fiber cables and connect both switches? As long as they are on the same VLAN, I should get a true LAN extension, right? Can anyone suggest any good reading?

Also, I only have a blade with fiber links on one switch, can I use the GBIC interfaces on the supervisory module on the other switch to interconnect them, or am I going to have to buy a Fiber blade for the second switch?

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Alex.

Hi Alex, to connect your switches over the dark fiber, you simply need to connect the TX on one switch to the RX on the other and vice versa. Then you can either set that link for trunking or set it to be on the same VLAN in order to pass traffic across. I believe the ports on the Supervisor can be used like any other switch ports. Hope this helps.

David.
