Dear all,

I want to connect 2 locations Point to point.

The 2 locations are having separate ISDN lines.

And I dont want to use Real IPs on both sides.

Is it possible on Private IPs.

I have available the following resources with me.

Location 1:

D-link router, PC, ISDN line, NT Box etc.

Location 2:

As above.

What should be the dialed ISDN number at both the sides?

Is it possible to bypass Internet?

Is it possible without router using ISDN modem, PC and NT Box only?

Please help.

Thanks in advance,

Tushar

For my experience in ISDN (Europe):

- You can use private IP addresses

- ISDN numbers should have been provided by your Telco provider.

- You won't access Internet unless you call an ISP or accept a call from the Internet

- I'm not sure, but I think if you want to save the router you will need to use an ISDN card in your PC.

Advise: For more security, put access controls in routers for incoming and outgoing calls at both sides so they only can call each other.

Dear sir,

I am very much thankful to you. But please tell me one thing. Without router, I will dial the remote location, its ok. But can I access the remote end LAN, which is on Private IP.

Tushar,

What you are talking about is a point-to-point dial-up connection.

PC A<-->Modem A<-->ISDN<-->Modem B<-->PC B

1.) Modems should be ISDN.

2.) Configure Modem A to call Modem B.

3.) Configure Modem B to answer call of Modem A.

4.) You are connected (PC A <--> PC B).

This has nothing to do with IP adresses, but if this is a international number you are calling then a connection through the internet is cheaper.

INTERNATIONAL

(PC Netherlands)<-->Modem A<-->ISDN<-->Modem B<-->(PC Australia)

Now a connection can look like this:

(PC Netherlands)<-->Modem A<-->ISP A <-->Internet<-->ISP B <--> Modem B<-->(PC England)

1.) From the Netherlands I phone my Internet Provider (ie. XS4ALL).

2.) My PC gets an unique IP address from XS4ALL.

3.) My friend in England phones his Internet Provider (ie. Tiscalli ?)

4.) He gets an unique IP address from his provider.

5.) My friend and me can start communicating using the unique IP addresses.

Advantage:

Lower cost, since you are dialing a local number to your Internet Provider.

Disadvantage:

You need a Internet Service Provider.
