Link sharing with two 2611

Hello:

I'm getting contradictory information regarding the possibility of sharing one 256Kbps Internet access link between two 2611 routers. Some people tell me it's possible, other say it's a "no go". The challenge is: I want to have two 2611 routers in a hot standby configuration, with redundant switches on the LAN side and one dedicated (256Kbps) link to the Internet.

Question: is it possible for these two routers to be connected to that same link (through an "Y" cable, or something like that), so that when the primary fails, the backup router may continue providing access? How should I implement this solution without having to lease two independent links?

Thanks a lot for your help.

It's possible that Adtran may make a multiplexer to do something like that. check www.adtran.com - Their tech support is very good.

Note- You may end up with a layer 1 fix but end up with layer 3 issues.

I think 2 FT1s would be a better solution with 1720s ($1,195 list) unless you need the dual ethernet then go with 2611s. Don't forget to order the CSU -> WIC-1DSU-T1=
