When configuring a tunnel you entering a command tunnel mpls traffic-eng bandwidth 500this means a tunnelbandwidth of 500k. Is this a minimum guaranteed bandwidth, because during tests, if we are sending more than 500 k over this tunnel, there's no packet lost (interface STM1).

Hi.
You will only have packet loss if the interface gets congested. Otherwise you can have more than 500kbps on the tunnel. If the interface gets congested the router will try to give you 500kbps on the tunnel. This is a dynamic adjustment.

The 500k is guaranteed bandwidth. In TE the tunnel setup process "asks" (through RSVP) for a guaranteed bandwidth, i.e. every LSR involved in the LSP has to check, whether it can guarantee the requested amount of bandwidth. The only thing that counts is the already reserved bandwidth vs. the configured link bandwidth with respect to RSVP. Be aware that there might be congestion or not at the time the request is "answered", it doesn?t matter. TE is planning the traffic! The upper limit for a TE tunnel is the minimum bandwidth of all links the tunnel passes. To restrict the usage and to set an upper limit different to that you have to implement policing, which is a separate task.
