Multiple subnets on server NIC through VLAN

I have a user with a Linux server running two different subnets (let's say 1.1.1.1 and 2.2.2.2) through a single fast ethernet connection. He connects to a 3548. The 3548 is trunked up to a 6509 with an MSFC2.

I cannot get the second ip subnet to work. I have tried multiple VLANs on the 3548 port. I have also tried a single VLAN with a secondary address on the 6509.

I believe the problem is that the server has a single default route on the 1.1.1.1 network and the MSFC does not know how to get back to the 2.2.2.2 network when traffic is sourced from the 1.1.1.1 default route. I hope this makes sense.

Is there a way I can get this server to communicate with both subnet through the architecture described above?

Thanks,

Joe

Does the NIC card support trunking?

Thanks for the response.

No it the NIC does not support trunking unfortunately.

Joe

Starting from kernel-build 2.4 (Linux) 802.1q is supported, so I would recommend upgrading the kernel on this server.

kind regards,

Leo

Thanks for your reply. I thought that might be the only option open to me. I was kind of hoping there would be some other really slick solution I was overlooking but I guess not.

Thanks again,

Joe
