Hey,
We have two Cisco 3550-12T and about 30 2950T-24 switches across our network. We have about 400 workstations and 15 servers. I believe the current setup has one VLAN and is using EIGRP routing protocol. One of my issues is that we are not utilizing our switches as we can be. Also when we doing imaging across our network it takes about 3 hours to do 20 computers!
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to setup a network probably. I would also like to know can the 2950T-24 be stacked? If so, How?

Are the servers running gig nics ? If yes you could put them centrally and terminate that into the 3550 and put them in a separate vlan. 400 workstations in one vlan, could generate a lot of traffic, especially with the imaging stuff going on. I would suggest, vlan them off, into atleast 2 or more vlans. This will also require re-IPing some of your PCs, and equipments. You could use 3550 as the VTP server and propagate these vlans as required to the 2950. If a particular vlan is not required on one of the 2950's you can prune traffic for that vlan on the uplinks from 3550 to that 2950.
If you want redundancy in the network, its recommended to run atleast two links between each wiring closet /2950 to the core. This would ask for more ports in the core switches, perhaps a stackable solution like 3750 or a modular switch like 4500 would be ther right choice at the core.
2950's are not stackable, as they dont have a stack port like the 3750s. But I believe you could stack them on the front side (1 gbic slot per switch will be lost). Get the Gigastack GBIC and a 50cm or 1m cable and that will daisy chain both the switches together.

Hey HTH,
Thanks for your reply. Very much appreciated. When you say stack them on the front side, do you mean using crossover cable from switch to switch?
Also we have two backbone CAT5 or CAT6 cables going to/from central part of the network which is the 3550. Would it best if I combine these two links into one link.. I think like Link aggregation?. Sorry but my technical terms is not the best
I would use trunking for the backbone? Also would you use EIGRP for routing or something else?
Cheers,
Mark
