after configuring a password for the switch/router, I am unable to enter the password as it won't even display letters (when typing)  onto the Command Line Interface. (I'm new to packet tracer so If it's really obvious what I did wrong, that's why)

Hello @dunkmlh

This behavior is normal and expected when working with passwords on Cisco switches and routers in Packet Tracer or the real world.  When you are prompted to enter a password, nothing is displayed...This is a security feature designed to ensure that someone looking at your screen cannot guess the length of the password.

So, even though nothing is displayed, type your password as you configured it and press ENTER.

Best regards

Hello dunkmlh,

While you enter the password...it (letters) won't appear on the screen. Still you have to type correct password and press enter. if you type correct password, then you will be logged in to the switch. This is the default behaviour as part of security.

Best regards
