NTP Question

I set up Router 1 (6506 or 4507) as the NTP server and Router 2 (6506 or 4507) as the NTP client.

However, a server attached to Router 2 shows it can pull time from Router 2. I didn't configure any NTP related config on the interface level (such as NTP broadcast, NTP multicast).

Why can my server pull time from Router 2? Is the router broadcast out NTP by default? Thanks.

Hello Kevin,

by default, any client can pull NTP time from any NTP server or client (I think the restriction on pulling time from an NTP client is that the client has to be synchronized with the master). There is no access restriction other than what you can optionally configure (access-groups, NTP authentication). As long as your server attached to Router2 has IP connectivity to that router, it can get its time from NTP on that router.

HTH,
