High we have just bought alot of cat 500 switches for our access users. the problem we are facing is that we can not configure trunking btw a 375o and the Cat 500. is this a known isuue? do we need to change some thing or is it bc that the switch has some other problems (h/w or s/w).
Any help in this regard will be appriciated.
Regards.

You should do the following to configure a trunk port:
On cisco 3750:
interface gigabitethernet1/0/1
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q (or isl)
switcport mode trunk
And that's all for basic configuration. Also if you want you can define the native vlan in case of dot1q
switcport trunk native vlan "vlan-id"
or set some security:
switchport trunk allowed vlan "vlan-id"

Hi Waqas,
The 3750 switches are fully blown routers as well as traditional LAN based switches.

The sample configuration documents which you should read are here:
BUT,
It would appear from initial read-up that the Cisco Catalyst Express 500 series of swithces does not support 'Trunking'. Etherchannelling has not much to do with trunking necessarily.
Take a look at the following url:

I don't think so that Cat 500 doesn't support Trunking, since it supports up to 32 VLANS and also has SFP slot.
Do you think that Cisco created a switch with SFP module support and only support one VLAN on it?
VLANs for grouping network users according to functions, teams, or applications, and regardless of the physical location of the network users. The switch supports up to 32 VLANs.
EtherChannels for bundling multiple Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet ports into a single logical link to create a higher bandwidth link between the switch and another switch.
EtherChannel can be deployed only over trunk link as I know.

Actually having read further on it does seem to support trunking using it's smartports:

thanks for that,

Yes, it supports.
As I understand to set the port to trunk you should use "Switch" smartport role.
Switch smartport role: Apply this role to ports that will be connected to other switches.
