Hi;

I wantto try something and i need some info.......the situation is this, we have a switched environ with multiple vlans, and I want a server that is in 1 vlan to run a virtual machine. the guest os however needs to be in a separate vlan. I've seen the trunk command used on switches when running a voice and data network with the switchport trunk native command separating the two types of traffic..........so the question is can it be done with two data vlans runningand each OS having a static ip? thought, suggestions, white papers welcome :-}

Hi,

You could configure a trunk (need the appropriate NIC for the vmware hardware) between server and switch.

In our case (and we have a large vmware environment) we simply use 2 nics (all our hardware comes with 2 nics anyways). One we use for management, & the other for the production os's. For the former I have assigned static ip's from a management vlan. For the production os's I have assigned static ip's from a separate vlan - so one NIC/vlan.
