Setting a rspan for one of our customer. After reading through the document, what confused me is the reflector port. What's the purpose to have a reflector port? Is this for a local monitor device? The way I am looking at the mechinism of the rspan, it doesn't need this reflector port at all. Has anybody have experence to share? thanks

Hi,

read http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps646/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008014f36c.html#1073435

My understanding is that the switch has to realize "VLAN hopping" for RSPAN, i.e. to remove VLAN tags from all the frames coming from rspan sources and replace them with RSPAN VLAN tag.

The easiest way to implement this was to use I/O queues on the reflector port probably and loopback the output queue to the RSPAN VLAN.

So no local monitoring, no frames are sent out from the reflector port to the physical interface.

Regards,
