SDM questions

I just installed CISCO SDM on my workstation. One thing that bothers me is that everytime I try to use SDM my IE starts, but Active X somehow prevents me of opening SDM console. If I paste SDM link from IE to Mozilla browser everything works fine. Does anyone know how does SDM works with IE browser? It has to do something with JAVA and IE, at least I guess so?

I am planning to install SDM also to CISCO router 836, but I need to change IOS. Can anyone tell me what would be up to date IOS that also suports SDM? My current one is 12.3-2XC2.

As well, I would like to connect to CISCO router from home, however I don't know if that is safe security wise?

Check the access list and firewall setting with related to SDM. It may block the ports not to open the application.

Once you have completed the cable connections and powered up the router, we recommend that you use the Cisco Router and Security Device Manager (SDM) web-based application to configure the initial router settings.
