Sending break, WIndows 7, tera term or putty, serial connection to cisco switches

I asked professor google how to send a break over a serial connection via putty (ctrl+break). I have 3x3650 switches I bought for training and of course they have a password set. When I hold the mode key and plug them in, I get the correct message re: The password-recovery mechanism is enabled.

Right after I see this output:

Initializing Flash...
flashfs[0]: 443 files, 9 directories
flashfs[0]: 0 orphaned files, 0 orphaned directories
flashfs[0]: Total bytes: 32514048
flashfs[0]: Bytes used: 30030336
flashfs[0]: Bytes available: 2483712
flashfs[0]: flashfs fsck took 18 seconds.
...done Initializing Flash.
done.

There is the usual pause, during which I hit the break sequence (according to several posts in cisco

forums it's ctrl+break for putty). I also tried several other key combinations, but the breaks weren't

working. I then installed tera term and tried alt+b (and a few other combinations), with no success.

I didn't think it was possible to disable the break function on switches, but just in case I tried a 2950

with the same result, or lack thereof. I have my terminal emulation set to vt100+, using MS Natural Ego

4000 keyboard. I also used the menu in both putty and tera term to try to send a break. Does anyone

know the actual break sequence of putty/and or terraterm, serial connection?

I would prefer to get a response from someone who actually uses putty and/or terraterm, over serial

connection. Since the data I found using google didn't work, I don't want to waste more time experimenting.

Thanks!

EDIT: I also installed hyperterm PE. ctrl+break, as recommended, didn't work either.

The only way that I know of to do a password recovery is from the console port. During the boot phase, you will be able to do the cntl-break and get into RONMON.

Here is the link to the Cisco website: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3650/software/release/3se/system_management/configuration_guide/b_sm_3se_3650_cg/b_sm_3se_3650_cg_chapter_01111.html#task_1021182

Since password recovery is enabled, follow the Procedure with Password Recovery Enabled. I would recommend reading the section Recovery from a lost or forgotten password.

I hope this helps.
