Service-Policy on Main Interface

Hi,

In normal sense, I understand that the service-policy should be applied on sub-interface.

policy-map Output

class xxx

shape average 300000

int fa 0/0

no ip address

...

int fa 0/0.10

enc dot1q 10

ip address x.x.x.x

service-policy out Output

int fa 0/0.2

enc dot1q 20

ip address x.x.x.x

service-policy out Output

I found that the service-policy still works in main interface even that there is no ip address.

int fa 0/0

no ip address

service-policy out Output

...

int fa 0/0.10

enc dot1q 10

ip address x.x.x.x

In this configuraiton, I wish to shape the bandwidth for all sub-interface.

But I am not sure if it is official supported or not. Could you share your experience?

Thanks,

Cliff.

Cliff,

you can definetely do what you are trying to do on sub-interfaces..

See the following for prerequisites.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/tech/tk543/tk545/technologies_tech_note09186a0080114326.shtml

Note: Class-based shaping works at the interface and subinterface level. Cisco IOS 12.2(2.5) introduces the ability to configure shaping on the main interface and IP addresses on the subinterfaces.

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much!

I overlooked this statement at the last of the paper.

Do you know the name of this feature?

Regards,

Cliff.

Generic Traffic Shaping GTS

or class-based shaping
