I have a Cisco Catalyst 3500XL on my network. There are several Apple workstations connected here. There is also an Asante FriendlyNet GX4-800 GBIC switch connected to the Catalyst (to which there are connected more Apple machines). Late model machines on both switches are experiencing intermittant connectivity problems. What effect will turning off the spanning tree protocol have on the other switch? Is the use of portfast an option here?
