Unusual "experiencing errors" problem with shutdown interfaces

In the past day, a Catalyst 2924XL-M that has been running smoothly for over 22 weeks sudden started generateing LINK-4-ERROR: FastEthernet0/x experiencing errors. These messages have been coming up every two to three minutes over the past day. It doesn't seem to be affecting the switch's performance. The really usually thing is, some of the FastEthernet interfaces that are "experiencing errors" are administrativtely shutdown and have never been active.

The other strange part is when I do a show interfaces on the interfaces the are reporting problems and are enabled, the switch sometimes shows no errors, and then another time will show millions of errors. (See below) Anybody have any ideas?

>show interface fas0/1

FastEthernet0/1 is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is Fast Ethernet, address is 0009.4301.5e01 (bia 0009.4301.5e01)

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit, DLY 100 usec,

reliability 251/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set

Keepalive not set

Full-duplex, 100Mb/s, 100BaseTX/FX

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

Last input never, output 00:00:01, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters never

Queueing strategy: fifo

Output queue 0/40, 0 drops; input queue 0/75, 0 drops

5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

1 packets input, 64 bytes

Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored

0 watchdog, 0 multicast

0 input packets with dribble condition detected

1107384569 packets output, 0 bytes, 0 underruns

0 output errors, 66 collisions, 2 interface resets

0 babbles, 0 late collision, 0 deferred

I have seen similar problems, but your issue is something different. There is a Field Notice in the following link, Check for this
