Using Jumbo Frames

I want to enable Jumbo Frames on my fiber-based e-commerce back-end to increase performance btwwen web-servers and SQL/NAS.

What impact will there be for non-jumbo devices that need to connect to the jumbo-frame enabled interfaces, such as management stations?

It really depends on which VLANs these servers are. Are they on the same VLAN or not ?

- While configuring, you should either enable all the ports in the same vlan jumbo-enabled, or

none of them jumbo enabled. It should not be configured like some enabled some not

- All the jumbo-enabled physical ports MTU size are tied together, change one of them will change

all. They always keep the same jumbo frame MTU size once enabled.

- L3 Jumbo frame on VLAN interfaces is supported only on PFC/MSFC2 (12.1.7a.E onwards) and

PFC2/MSFC2 (12.1(8a)E4 onwards) .

- No fragmentation supported for packets within the same VLAN (L2 jumbo).Hence, as far as the

communication between the jumbo enabled server with other servers that you have mentioned, it really

depends whether they are residing in the same VLAN or not, as I have mentioned above.
