It's difficult to express in words how much I hate Visio, its appalling usability seems only rivalled by its ubiquity. The job demands that I use it.
I have a very basic need of a stencil for a generic Switch and a Router. Cisco seemed to have made this insanely complicated with their stencil offerings.
I have downloaed the PPt colour stencils of "Icons as Microsoft Visio Stencils (.vss)" from https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/about/brand-center/network-topology-icons.html.
In it, I have found that the closest match to what I want for a Router is NetFlow Router however I can't see a generic Switch stencil. The closest I can find is "Workgroup Switch Voice-Enabled" which is almost what I want, but has a dirty great "V" in the middle, which would confuse people viewing the diagram.
Can anyone provide the holy grail of a basic router & switch stencil, or help me understand why this seems so much more complicated than it needs to be.
Thanks,

Exactly, same issues here. And I'm very surprised nobody at Cisco responded to your question or complain. And this issue is present for many, many years. It's like intentionally done, like something keeps Cisco not posting these basic icons in the Visio Stencils. Don't think it's a copyright or something like that.
Only solution I used before was a separate Visio file that contained a lot of basic network icons on different pages, that looked exactly like Cisco uses in books and documentation, or same style and colors like in Visio Stencils from Cisco. And simply copy paste the stencil or icon you want into your new document.

I found the basic icons at this Cisco URL - https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/about/brand-center/network-topology-icons.html
Then download the PMS 3015: ZIP file. Open it in Microsoft Visio and you will get the basic icons.
