what is the best method of trunking between a cat3550, cat2950, cat2980?
does the cat3550 auto negociate?
could someone give me some guidelines on the configuration of these trunks?
Thanks

Hi,
I think all these devices support both 802.1q and ISL trunking.
I prefer 802.1 - it's standard (ISL is Cisco proprietary) and the header length is shorter (4 bytes while 30 bytes for ISL).
Cat3550 default mode is desirable.

Hi,
Here is a link that will help you. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps637/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008007f261.html in general I think cisco says to use mode desirable on both sides. Hope this helps.

Corey
