what is the best method of trunking between a cat3550, cat2950, cat2980?

does the cat3550 auto negociate?

could someone give me some guidelines on the configuration of these trunks?

Hi,

I think all these devices support both 802.1q and ISL trunking.

I prefer 802.1 - it's standard (ISL is Cisco proprietary) and the header length is shorter (4 bytes while 30 bytes for ISL).

Cat3550 default mode is desirable.

Hi,

Here is a link that will help you. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps637/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008007f261.html in general I think cisco says to use mode desirable on both sides. Hope this helps.
