My customer wants to downgrade a 2 Mb connection to 1 Mb. The local PTT doesn't deliver 1 Mb connections.
So I have to do something on the routers.
As far as I can see I can use rate-limit or GTS (encapsulation is hdlc).
Any recommendations ?

You can use any of those mechanisms. Rate-limiting will drop traffic exceeding the rate, if configured, whereas shaping will buffer and accommodate bursts at the expense of more memory. So, it depends on what you want to do with the violating traffic.

i have to deploy my network next to new building so now we have the one 3550 in first building where it gets connected to the internet with a fiber madule i want to know if i grow up my network to new building can i dedicate some value of total internet bandwidth, by using GTS like folowing commands or not
Step 1
Router(config)# access-list access-list-number Assigns traffic to an access list.
Step 2
Router(config-if)# interface interface-type interface-number Enters interface configuration mode.
Step 3
Router(config-if)# traffic-shape group access-list-number bit-rate [burst-size [excess-burst-size]] Configures traffic shaping for outbound traffic on an interface for the specified access list.
JUST YES OR NO

alright if i was you i would to first to use rate-limite cause it doesnt eat your CPU resource somhow GTS give you ability to change the way user wants to have services, it seems you have just single port connected to your user so you do not need to take any more things to this simple thing i bliv its okay and about hdlc that is not problem with lower bandwidth if any problem have cause of this you can chang this to ppp from ur local router and remote inside of your customer
