Hello sir,

I need your help for some data sheet.

My customer is using Cat6k with SUP2/MSFC2.

They want to use Per-Packet base CEF Load-Balancing but the SUP2/MSFC2 does NOT support.

So I found some solution that CatOS 6.3(5) has been added new feature. see the below.

My question is....

If I use a new feature on 6.3(5), how much improvement do you expect?

Can you find some document or any test result that shows good progress?

Do you have any solution that customer may accept it??

1. Cat6K with SUP2/MSFC2

<Load Balancing>

It is important to note that the Catalyst 6500 Family offers the ability to load balance across parallel paths on a per-flow basis only. This means that per-packet load balancing is not supported on the Catalyst 6500 Family of Switches when using CEF-based forwarding.

2. Resolved Caveats in Software Release 6.3(5)

A new CLI command has been added to include Layer 4 ports in a load-balancing hash. When multiple paths are available to reach a destination (see Figure 1), the new hash is applied to pick the path to be used for forwarding.

Prior to this enhancement, the CEF load balancing on PFC2 only used a source IP/destination IP based-hash.

Use the following command to include or exclude Layer 4 ports in the hash:

set mls cef load-balance {full | source-destination-ip}

recommend not to use per-packet load balancing (packets may arrive out of order). So you better use per-destination with layer 4 hash on (this may improve load-balancing).
