hello,
I need to configure HSRP, and the next hop is a PIX that has to have a public ip address. I don't have a lot public ip's available, so can i configure the standby group with public ip address and the routers interfaces as private ip address ???
-of course that i will need to configure a static from the serial towards the ethernet interface cause the router doesn't know where is the pix ip address is ...
- is this possible ???
- what are the implications ???
tks
Pedro

You can't have hsrp group address in a different subnet then the actual devices. The whold point of default gateway is that it should be in the same subnet. If the default gateway is in different subnet how can you reach the default gateway. You can configure it but the devices won't work.
You should probably consider NAT.
