Line con 0 password

I am drawing a blank, for some reason i can't get the command password 7 to work. It keeps saying " invalid encrypted password. Can somebody tell me what i'm doing wrong?

Ommit the '7' when typing the password command. Just type 'password (your password here)'. By typing a 7 you are telling the router that an already encrypted password is to follow. Use the 'service password-encryption' command to encrypt the password after you have enterend it.

Did you set "Service password encryption" ? What IOS version are you using?

Try:

conf term

service password-encryption
