Localhost pinging

Dear All,
I have littile confussion when i want to ping my localhost (self pinging) i am getting 10ml second latency ? it should be 1ms.
can you please explain some one.

Is this your own addess on a serial link? If you are pinging the address of a point-to-point link, the ping will go all the way to the partner and back again. You respond, and response also goes all the way to the partner and back again.

Dear Sir,
No, this is my pc ip address which is connected to switch (cisco 2950 layer-2).if i am pinging the same address which is assign to pc i am gettting respone time 10MS.
PLEASE EXPLAIN.

Hi,
which OS are you running on your PC?
Some Windows simply display ping response time < 10 ms no matter if it was 1 ms or 10 ms in fact...

So if you receive time<10ms in the ping output, I beleive that's the Windows case.
Or do you get time=10ms?

yes, I am getting <10ms in window 2000 and window xp 1ms
