SHOW VERSION on customer's router shows the following:
cisco RSP4 (R5000) processor with 163840K/2072K bytes of memory.
R5000 CPU at 200Mhz, Implementation 35, Rev 2.1, 512KB L2 Cache
We suspect some intermittent problem with the RSP4 and wanted to change it. So we ordered the following 2 parts since we know that the RSP4 will not come with amount of DRAM that our router has - as indicated by the above SHOW VERSION.
RSP4=
MEM-RSP-128M
We found that the above memory SIMM - MEM-RSP-128M - does not fit into the RSP4. May be it is meant for RSP1/RSP2.
So what is the 128 MB memory part number for adding memory to RSP4=/RSP4+=

Hi,
The RSP4 comes with 32Mb of DRAM, by default. The RSP4+ comes with 64Mb of DRAM, by default.
You cannot mix memory sizes when installing 2 DIMMs and the largest single DIMM you can get is 128MB.
Therefore, if you needs 160Mb of DRAM, you have to get the next higher supported configuraton of 256Mb. You can do that by removing the DIMM that comes with the RSP4/4+ and installing two of the following: MEM-RSP4-256M(=)

What I intended to say is that the MEM-RSP-128M that I ordered separately to put into one DIMM socket does not fit into the RSP4 card. You cannot physically install that DIMM in the DIMM socket.
Regarding your theory of going to 256 MB, I only need 160 MB which I presume will be made up of the 32 MB mounted on the motherboard and 128 MB installed into one DIMM socket. Are you saying there is no memory on the motherboard other than what is in the DIMM? If that is true, how does the customers running system now show 160 MB?

Hi,
The DIMM that you ordered was the MEM-RSP-128M; what you require is the MEM-RSP4-128M.
There is no onboard DRAM on the RSP4 motherboard - the RSP4 ships with 32MB of DRAM which is installed in DIMM slot U10. When you get the additional 128M DIMM, you will need to move the 32MB DIMM from slot U10 to U13 and then insert the 128MB DIMM into slot U10 - slot U10 must contain the largest-sized DIMM if you have mixed-size DIMMs.
I presume that your customer has a combination of a 32MB and a 128MB DIMM to give them 160MB.

Just another note;
The RSP1 and RSP2 used SIMMs (MEM-RSP-xxx) whereas the RSP4 uses DIMMs (MEM-RSP4-xxx)... You just need to order right part and it should work with your RSP4.

Thanks for this valuable information. But how-come I was unable to find this information on CCO whereas you did? Can you please point me to some pointers on CCO where I could have found this information. I did not see this information in the H/W documentation.
