2900XL Flash problem

I cannot copy a new flash image to one of my 2900XL switches. I am being returned the 'not enough flash remaining'. This is the dir flash command from the switch:

2-r--1109398 Mar 01 1993 02:03:07 c2900old.bin

3-r-- 310 Mar 01 1993 02:04:36 env_vars

4dr-- 6784 Jul 18 2000 01:26:30 html

112r-- 1394 Mar 01 1993 02:04:48 config.text

3612672 bytes total (1477120 bytes free)

as you can see, the space used in flash should give me a free space of about 2400000 bytes. Why!?

How are you upgrading switch? CWSI? or direct connect to switch? Which version of IOS are you upgrading from? What are you upgrading to? What model of 2900XL switch is this? Would love to help fellow brit, but need more info before I can help you.

I am upgrading via tftp. The switch is a WS-C2924-XL with existing firmware version 11.2(8.6)SA6. I am upgrading to 12.0(5)XW. I didn’t post this originally because I was wondering if there was a global command for Catalysts similar to the ‘groom’ flash command that fixes this problem on a pix. The problem is that I cannot copy the image into flash because there is not enough space, but there should be!

ok, sorry it took me so long to get back with you, kinda busy. Well, I will state the obvious and say that the switch Flash memory can hold only one software image file, you need to change the name of the current image file to the name of the new file you are copying. You then replace the old file with the new file when you copy it into Flash memory. Let me know how you get on.
