640-554 or 600-199 (CCNA Security or SCYBER Exam

Hello all,

Does any know what the difference is between these two exams? From just reading about it. does it seem that the Scyber exam is more generalized security content and the 640-554 is more in depth? I'm not sure how to compare these, anyone have any comments about them?

Thanks.

Both exams have different topics as outlines by the blueprints:

I would also say that the CYBER is more generalized and the CCNA Security is more about implementation (although my CCNA Security Exam is already some years old; I did the CYBER exam in June).

For the decision which one to take:

  • The CCNA Security should be the foundation for every further certification in the security-area. You also need it when going for CCNP Security later.
  • The CYBER is for a specialization, that nearly nobody needs and nobody knows. Although the knowledge that you gain in preparing for this exam is very valuable, I still would consider it an "add-on" knowledge that you should go for when you already finished other certifications like CCNA Security and/or CCNP Security.

Hello Karsten,

Thanks for replying. I agree, it does seem to me as well that the CCNA Security is more detailed. Do you think that going from a ccent base to the ccna security is well enough, or is the ccna r&s is really needed before going into the ccna security?

Thank you.

At least in my opinion, there are often security-people who lack a detailed understanding for the function of the IT-networking. My advice would always be to first focus on pure networking (includes CCNA, perhaps even CCNP R/S) and then focus on the security-part of the networks.
