Hi friends,

I don't Know whether this is the right firm to discuss this point, but out of curiosity i am asking this question.

I heard that IP Address can be captured from Mail Ids. Is it true?

If so can any one let me Know how this can be done. and what can be the Preventive measures to be taken for such attacks.

Not quite sure what you are getting at.

In the smtp headers, mail server names and ip addresses will be seen. This might present information leakage. This is not an "attack"

In web based email, hotmail, excite, etc put the client pc ip address of the web user in the message header, so these are not really anonymous

People Say hotmail is secure. what does that actually mean? and how one can capture data from mails going out of hotmail/yahoo mail ...etc. Any Special tools avaliable to capture the data

Hotmail is secure because it uses SSL (secure socket layer) to encrypt the http traffic.

When you access the hotmail website, you will see a lock-sign at the bottom bar of Internet Explorer. This means that you are using SSL.

SSL in combination with http is often called https.

SSL uses standard encryption algorithms. But every encryption algorithm can be broken by using a brute force attack. But is takes a very long time (month, years,...) to break the latest encryption algorithms (like AES, 3DES,...)

What exactly do you mean by mail ids?

In the header of emails, the IP addresses/DNS names of all the SMTP servers that forwarded a message are being displayed.
