cisco 1720 script when using serial connection

I am having trouble with a cisco 1720 on board a ship. It is using a serial connection to a High speed data satellite terminal. For some reason it will not dial out. In fact it is as if the programming is corrupted. I can't ping the router from the peer to peer system, or ping out from the router, yet Ii know Ii have programmed it as by the book. Ccan any one help and send my a default script that will get me out of the sticky situation.
